Today I registered for a series of classes with Hilltop Garden and Nature Center in Bloomington, Indiana.
While registering I came across something called the CAN DO! Recycling Program Apparently this program helps to recycle cans, and provides a source of income for this organization:
CAN DO! Recycling Program
Hilltop Garden and Nature Center now collects used aluminum cans. We take them in to the recycling center for cash to help support the Garden. And it’s good for the environment, too. Making a can from recycled aluminum takes a staggering 95 percent less energy than making one from raw materials. Bring in your aluminum cans to Hilltop today!
I wonder how one can tell if a can was made from recycled aluminum? Say I buy a can of soup, it is recycled? This is something I will have to research and learn more about. Please comment on this blog if you have any answers.
However, this finding teaches me that there are some simple things I can do to not only help the environment, but assist our local community organizations that I love so much.
